Discovering Denmark: A Happy Place to Work and Live

Why Denmark isn't just a destination; it's a lifestyle, a harmonious blend of work and life

So, you’re thinking about moving to a new country. How about Denmark, where I am living and working? As a Vietnamese, I think it is a cool option. But why? Well, let’s break it down.

#1. Balancing Work and Life

Denmark is like a master at ensuring you have time for work and play. People there don’t overdo the work thing. They can adjust their work hours, and guess what? They get five weeks of paid vacations every year! Imagine that! It’s like they’ve figured out the perfect recipe for a good life: work a bit, play a lot.

I have kids, and five weeks seems not enough.

In Vietnam, workers have 12 days of paid vacation by law. But we rarely use them! Many of us work the whole year without using vacation days.

#2. A Safety Net for Everyone

In Denmark, they’ve got this amazing safety net called the welfare system. It covers education, healthcare, childcare — all the important stuff. And if you’re ever without a job, don’t worry; Denmark has programs to help you quickly return to work. It’s like having a superhero government looking out for you.

When looking for my first job after graduating from the Technical University of Denmark in 2015, I got help from Denmark’s job centers and my unemployment association. They helped me create a profile, prepare my CV, and find jobs.

#3. The Land of Smiles and LEGO

Denmark is always on the top of the list regarding quality of life. Why? Because they’ve got their priorities straight. Low crime, high living standards, great public services, and a super clean environment. It’s like living in a fairytale where everything works.

And here’s the secret ingredient — Danish culture. It’s all about being informal, treating everyone equally, and working together. In Denmark, they’ve turned being happy into an art form; you get to be a part of that masterpiece.

All of those qualities and cultures are opposite from those in Vietnam.

#4. Job Hunting Made Easy

Now, let’s talk about jobs. Denmark has many job options, especially in areas like business, cleantech, life sciences, and technology. The job market isn’t a battlefield; it’s more like a well-organized dance where everyone is happy — employers and employees alike.

Imagine not just being a tiny part of a big machine but a key player in making things better. With so many options, you can choose the career path that suits you best.

Many job opportunities in Denmark helped me get a job in software engineering, though my background was in pure mathematics!

#5. Going Green in Denmark

If you care about the environment, Denmark is your spot. The air is clean, and they’re all about being sustainable. With short distances between places and everyone riding bikes, you can explore nature without leaving a big carbon footprint.

In Vietnam, we would rather ride motorbikes than bicycles.

It’s like living in a giant garden where Mother Nature gives you a thumbs-up for picking Denmark as your playground. Oh, and did I mention windmills? Denmark has a ton of wind energy, enough to power many Legoland parks!

#6. Money Talk

Let’s talk money. Even though people in Denmark work fewer hours, they’re super productive. The economy is steady, and they have one of the highest GDP per capita in the world. It’s not just about making money; it’s about making a good life.

Denmark’s economy is like a steady climb with awesome views. And with a solid money system, you can trust that your cash is in good hands, probably sipping coffee in a cozy Copenhagen café.

In a nutshell, Denmark isn’t just a place; it’s a feeling. It’s the smell of pastries, the sound of laughter, and the cool sea breeze. It’s perfect if you want a happy balance between work and life, where happiness isn’t just a word — it’s a lifestyle.

So, pack your bags, get your passport, and prepare for an adventure in the happiest kingdom on Earth.
